Fantastic light tackle action on the Dusky today with Terry and Mark, and I mean light! Ghost Hunter 150s paired with Shimano 14k and 10K reels and 50lb braid and leaders accounted for 3 out of the 4 fish landed today.
Our Morning started with flat calm conditions as we crossed Cape Cod Bay and headed towards the grounds. Both Captain and crew were full of anticipation as we wondered how much the passing storm had effected the fish in the area. All our doubts disappeared as the first group of working birds had familiar splashes below them. The Siren Sorry Charlie in herring pattern didn’t last long with the first good cast in front of fish. The light gear made for an enjoyable 15 to 20 minute battle with a 40in class fish. Shortly after that fish was bled and on deck, the Dusky maneuvered to the next pod of birds. A few casts later an identical fish came tight on the new Nautilus by Strategic Angler.
The highlight of the day came when we hooked up using the lightest rod and reel set up we had. Hoping for another 40in class fish the Ghost Hunter 150 that had the 10k Sustain got put into play. When we came tight and the line started sizzling off the reel, we instantly knew that this wasn’t the small fish we were hoping for. After a solid 45 minutes of tug of war, we had color on a healthy 50in class fish that not only tested the gear but also the angler. Increased pressure by palming the reel eventually got the pinwheeling fish within gaff range.
Our last fish of the day was found under a massive school of halfbeaks out in the deep. Though they weren’t spraying frantically with fish on them, Terry made a well placed cast towards the back of the school. As soon as his plug cleared the halfbeaks, it got torched. Our last fish was the luckiest of the 4 as we already had our over and it was safely released to see another day.

We worked the classic fall bluefin bite, jigging Ronzs, and everyone on board both boats got tight yesterday!
The upcoming weather will certainly keep us on our toes, but you know we will get out there when Mother Nature gives us a window of opportunity.
